Yemen’s Houthis launch drone attack on Israel’s resort city Eilat: Israeli army
Yemen’s Houthi forces launched a drone targeting Israel’s southern Red Sea resort city of Eilat late Sunday, marking the second attempted strike on Israel in a single day, according to the Israeli military.
In an official statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), reportedly launched from Yemen, was “likely intercepted” by the Israeli Air Force before reaching its target. Sirens were activated in Eilat due to the risk of falling debris following the interception, the IDF said.
Israeli police later announced that officers were conducting search operations across the city but reported no injuries or damage. There has been no immediate response from Yemen’s Houthi movement regarding the latest incident.
Earlier on Sunday, Houthi forces also launched a missile toward central Israel, claiming to have targeted “sensitive sites.” The Israeli military confirmed the interception of the projectile by its advanced air defense systems.
The attacks come just days after the Houthis claimed to have fired a “hypersonic ballistic missile” at the Jaffa area near Tel Aviv on September 26, 2025. In a televised statement, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said the strike was a retaliation for what he termed Israeli “aggression” in Gaza and air raids over Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.
While the claimed missile attack briefly disrupted operations at Ben Gurion Airport, Israeli officials have not verified those assertions.
The repeated Houthi strikes highlight an escalating regional tension, with Yemen’s Iran-backed militia increasingly seeking to demonstrate its capability to reach deep into Israeli territory. The incidents underscore growing concerns over a widening Middle East conflict and the expanding reach of non-state actors employing advanced missile and drone technologies.
