India showcases ISRO, CSIR innovations at biodiversity summit in Guyana

India highlighted its cutting-edge innovations in space and scientific research at the Global Biodiversity Alliance Summit in Guyana, showcasing technologies from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Organised by the Indian High Commission in Georgetown, the exhibition was held on the sidelines of the summit to demonstrate India’s contributions to biodiversity conservation, resource mapping, agriculture, and climate change adaptation. The display was supported by the Government of Guyana, underscoring the growing bilateral partnership in science and sustainability.

“This initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for stronger cooperation with the Global South, including Guyana and other CARICOM countries,” the Indian High Commission said on social media.

The exhibition featured space-based solutions in forest biodiversity, environmental monitoring, and disaster management. It included technologies developed by ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and CSIR that can aid in managing natural resources and responding to environmental challenges.

The ISRO delegation to the summit includes Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao from NRSC, Dr. G.S. Pujar from the Earth Observation and Disaster Management Programme Office, and Dr. Sudhakar Reddy Chintala, Head of Forest Biodiversity and Ecology Division at NRSC.

Their presence marks a renewed commitment to advancing Indo-Guyanese cooperation in science, particularly in applying satellite and remote sensing technology to climate and ecological studies.

India’s growing collaboration with Guyana and CARICOM was earlier reinforced by PM Modi during his visit to Georgetown in November 2024, where he addressed the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit. He outlined innovation and technology as key pillars of the relationship.
