MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh to lead Indian delegation to Non-Aligned Movement meet in Uganda

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh will lead the Indian delegation to the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, Uganda, scheduled for October 15–16, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Monday.

The MEA said India’s participation reaffirms its strong commitment to the principles and values of the NAM, which continues to represent the collective voice of developing nations.

The ministerial session will be preceded by the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on October 13–14, where Sibi George, Secretary (West), will represent India.

Uganda, which currently chairs the NAM for the 2024–26 term, is hosting the mid-term meeting under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.”

“India is a founding member of the movement, which brings together 121 developing countries on a platform of historical significance,” the MEA said in a statement.

During his visit, MoS Singh is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with Ugandan leaders and counterparts from other NAM member states, strengthening India’s engagement with the Global South.

The NAM was established during the Cold War era, amid the collapse of colonial systems and independence movements across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. It played a crucial role in the decolonisation process and the promotion of global peace and cooperation.

India, a founding pillar of the movement, continues to view NAM as a vital platform for advancing multilateralism, South-South cooperation, and strategic autonomy in global affairs.
