India slams ‘biased’ UN report linking Pahalgam terror attack to Rohingya treatment
India has rejected as “biased and communal” a UN human rights report that linked the April 2025 Pahalgam terrorist attack to India’s treatment of Rohingya refugees.
BJP MP Dilip Saikia, representing India at a UN briefing on Myanmar, said the Special Rapporteur Thomas Andrews had drawn “false and prejudiced” conclusions. “The allegation that this terrorist attack impacted displaced persons from Myanmar has absolutely no factual bearing,” Saikia said, adding that India “strongly denounces the biased approach” adopted by the UN expert.
Saikia criticized Andrews — a former US congressman and Harvard academic — for relying on “unverified and skewed media reports” and accused him of giving a “communal lens” to a terror tragedy. He emphasized that India remains committed to peace in Myanmar, calling for an end to violence, the release of political prisoners, and inclusive democratic dialogue.
The UN report had alleged that after the Pahalgam attack, Rohingya refugees in India faced detention, interrogation, and threats of deportation. It also claimed some refugees were forcibly sent by sea toward Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Refuting the claims, India said it has consistently taken a lawful and humanitarian approach toward displaced persons but has legitimate concerns about radicalization and national security.
