India saw significant progress in drone technology in past 6 years: Surveyor General

India has made significant progress in drone technology in the last six years, according to Surveyor General of India Hitesh Kumar Makwana, who made this statement during a workshop in Bhopal on Monday.

Makwana highlighted that the Central government has introduced a drone policy to promote the widespread use of drone technology. From their initial limited use, drones have now become versatile tools, he said.

He noted that the government has set a target to develop an ecosystem based on drone technology, with necessary rules, licensing procedures, and operational periods in place for drone usage.

“When we talk about drones, it is not just a flying camera but a game-changing technology capable of providing services at different levels. This technology has widespread applications in the state, which will benefit citizens,” he added.

Makwana emphasized that the government is working to develop such an ecosystem that will facilitate the wide usage of drones in various fields. He also said that this initiative is crucial in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India.

At the workshop, which was held to discuss advanced drone technology at Bhopal’s Kushabhau Thakre auditorium, Makwana also mentioned that Madhya Pradesh is making significant strides towards becoming a leader in drone technology.

“Madhya Pradesh is a leading state in the use of drone technology. The state has achieved a special feat by using drones to implement the Swamitva Yojana. Drone technology is efficient, accessible, and cost-effective,” he said.

Additional Chief Secretary of Science and Technology, Sanjay Dubey, also spoke about the state’s efforts to use drone technology. He revealed that the Madhya Pradesh government is setting up manufacturing units for drones and the process is underway.

“Madhya Pradesh is working on the practical and beneficial use of drones at the regional level. We aim to create a strong, holistic ecosystem in the state. The use of drone technology is not just an option but a necessity for the future,” Dubey said.

A drone-centric information portal was launched during the event to integrate information related to drone technology, policy, and training.
