Third India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable to be held in Delhi today

India and Singapore are set to hold the third edition of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) in New Delhi on Wednesday, aiming to deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and explore new areas of cooperation.

The high-level meeting comes ahead of a possible visit by Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to India next month, according to media reports. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the ISMR as a “unique platform” for shaping a forward-looking agenda in bilateral relations, first envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India will be represented by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The Singapore delegation will be led by Deputy Prime Minister and Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong. He will be joined by Coordinating Minister for National Security and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam, Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Digital Development and Information Minister Josephine Teo, Manpower Minister Tan See Leng, and Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow.

The ISMR was launched in September 2022 in New Delhi, with the second round hosted in Singapore in August 2024. The third meeting is expected to identify fresh opportunities in trade, technology, infrastructure, and innovation.

Earlier this year, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam visited India, meeting PM Modi and EAM Jaishankar to discuss cooperation in semiconductors, industrial parks, skilling, digitalisation, and trade development. Both sides emphasised “futuristic sectors” to drive their partnership forward.

India and Singapore’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, elevated during PM Modi’s visit to the island nation last year, continues to serve as a framework for robust economic, technological, and security cooperation.
