India to Host Inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in 2025

The Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) and the International Kho Kho Federation have announced that India will host the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in 2025.

This landmark event will feature 24 countries from six continents, including 16 teams each for men and women.

To promote the sport leading up to the World Cup, the KKFI plans to introduce Kho Kho in 200 elite schools across ten cities. Additionally, a membership drive will aim to register at least 5 million players from schools ahead of the tournament.

Sudhanshu Mittal, President of KKFI, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are incredibly excited to host the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup. This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about uniting nations, fostering cultural exchange, and showcasing the beauty and intensity of Kho Kho on a global stage. Our ultimate goal is to see Kho Kho recognized as an Olympic sport by 2032, and this World Cup is the first step toward that dream.”

The tournament will span a week, featuring top-tier athletes from around the world demonstrating their skills, agility, and teamwork.

By hosting this historic event, the KKFI aims to elevate Kho Kho to an international platform. The organization aspires to secure the sport’s inclusion in the Olympic Games by 2032, marking a significant milestone in its history.

With its roots firmly in India, the World Cup will celebrate the rich cultural heritage and competitive spirit of Kho Kho, which has evolved from traditional mud play to a mat-based format and now enjoys global recognition, with 54 countries participating in the sport worldwide.
