Indian airlines cancel flights to Saudi Arabian cities until October 17
Four Indian airlines, IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express and Akasa Air, have cancelled or suspended flights to several Saudi Arabian cities until October 17 amid an escalating security situation in the region.
The announcements come after attacks disrupted operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, prompting Saudi authorities to extend the airport’s closure until October 17. The situation has led airlines to review their operations and prioritise passenger and crew safety.
IndiGo announced that flights to and from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah would remain cancelled until October 17. The airline advised passengers to check their flight status before travelling to the airport and said it was coordinating with the relevant authorities.
Air India Express also cancelled flights to and from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam through October 17. The airline said affected passengers could choose complimentary rescheduling or a full refund for cancelled bookings.
Air India confirmed that its flights connecting Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam would remain cancelled until October 17. The airline said it was monitoring developments and assessing when services could safely resume. Affected passengers were offered full refunds for cancellations.
Akasa Air extended the suspension of its flights to and from Riyadh and Jeddah through October 17. The airline said the decision followed an assessment of the deteriorating security situation and associated risks to safe flight operations. Passengers affected by the cancellations could opt for a full refund or reschedule their journeys without additional charges.
The disruptions follow recent attacks in Saudi Arabia, including an attack at Riyadh’s airport, which resulted in casualties and significant interruptions to air travel. The security situation has also prompted international carriers to cancel or suspend services to several destinations in the kingdom.
Passengers planning to travel to Saudi Arabia are advised to check the latest flight updates directly with their airlines before leaving for the airport. The airlines are continuing to monitor the situation, and schedules may change depending on security developments and airport operations.
