
‘Indian Consulate Will Deepen People-to-People Linkages,’ Says PM Modi in Marseille
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Marseille alongside French President Emmanuel Macron after delivering the inaugural address at the AI Action Summit in Paris. He emphasized that the opening of an Indian consulate in the city would further strengthen ties between India and France, as well as deepen the connection between their people.
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “President Macron and I reached Marseille a short while ago. This visit will witness important programmes aimed at further connecting India and France. The Indian consulate which is being inaugurated will deepen people-to-people linkages. I will also pay homage to the Indian soldiers martyred in the First and Second World Wars.”
During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate the new Consulate General of India in Marseille alongside President Macron on Wednesday. The two leaders will also visit the Mazargues War Cemetery to pay tribute to Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the World Wars.
Additionally, they will tour the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project in Cadarache, a global nuclear fusion initiative.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, PM Modi arrived in Marseille with President Macron after co-chairing the AI Action Summit in Paris.
PM Modi also acknowledged Marseille’s historical significance in India’s freedom struggle, recalling Veer Savarkar’s escape attempt during colonial rule.
He posted on X, “In India’s quest for freedom, this city holds special significance. It was here that the great Veer Savarkar attempted a courageous escape. I also want to thank the people of Marseille and the French activists of that time who demanded that he not be handed over to British custody. The bravery of Veer Savarkar continues to inspire generations!”
In his address at the AI Action Summit, PM Modi emphasized the need for investment in skilling and reskilling people for an AI-driven future. He highlighted the importance of inclusive governance, particularly for the Global South.
France confirmed that India will host the next AI summit following PM Modi’s expression of interest, with India assuring France of its full support for AI-related initiatives.
The Prime Minister also spoke at the India-France CEOs Forum in Paris, encouraging business partnerships between the two countries.
Highlighting advancements in manufacturing, infrastructure, and production, Modi invited businesses to invest in India, reaffirming the country’s goal of achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
