
Indian delegation meets diaspora in New York, praises role in strengthening India–US ties
A 12-member parliamentary delegation led by BJP MP P.P. Chaudhary met around 90 members of the Indian-American community in New York, appreciating their contributions to advancing India–US relations and promoting India’s image globally.
Organized by the Consulate General of India in New York, the interactive session saw the parliamentarians invite the diaspora to actively participate in the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ initiative — India’s vision for becoming a developed nation.
Among the attendees were Indian-origin US Senators Raj Mukherji and Vin Gopal, who joined discussions on strengthening people-to-people ties between the two nations.
During their visit, the delegation also met Amandeep Singh Gill, the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, for talks on AI governance, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), and inclusive innovation. The meeting highlighted India’s leadership in digital transformation and equitable tech development.
The parliamentarians, representing various parties, are in New York to attend meetings at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). They also met Jamaica’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Brian C.M. Wallace, discussing UN Security Council reforms and the diaspora’s growing role in global diplomacy.
Additionally, MP Poonamben Maadam addressed the UN’s Third Committee on women’s advancement, highlighting the contribution of ASHA workers in India’s health system. MP Ujjwal Nikam spoke in the Sixth Committee on criminal accords of UN officials, while MP Bharat Mathukumilli discussed ICTs for sustainable development in the Second Committee.
The delegation reaffirmed India’s commitment to women’s empowerment, technological inclusivity, and global cooperation through the UN framework.
