Indian diaspora in Iceland joins Viksit Bharat Run 2025 to support vision of Developed India

The Indian diaspora in Iceland came together on Sunday to participate in the Viksit Bharat Run 2025, an initiative organised by the Embassy of India in Reykjavik. The event, held as part of Seva Pakhwada, aimed to inspire Indians abroad to contribute to building a self-reliant and developed India.

India’s Ambassador to Iceland, R Ravindra, addressed the gathering, administered the Viksit Bharat pledge, and recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day 2025 speech, where he outlined the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Modi’s vision emphasizes self-reliance, innovation, and citizen empowerment as the pillars of India’s growth journey.

After the run, which saw the participation of around 50 members of the diaspora and friends of India, Ambassador Ravindra distributed certificates to all runners.

According to the Indian Embassy, the Viksit Bharat Run carries the theme “Run to Serve the Nation”, designed as a 3–5 km community event at iconic locations across the globe. The Reykjavik edition joined more than 150 global locations across 91 countries, including landmarks such as Mexico City’s Angel of Independence, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, and UNESCO World Heritage sites in Suriname.

The initiative is jointly organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). In a statement, MYAS highlighted that the run is not just a fitness and community activity but a celebration of India’s values of Seva Bhav (spirit of service), sustainability, and inclusivity.

“The Viksit Bharat Run 2025 is emerging as one of India’s largest global outreach programs. It strengthens diaspora bonds, mobilises youth for service-oriented initiatives, and showcases India’s growth story to the world,” the ministry said.
