Indian envoy felicitates educator as Hindi teaching takes root in China’s Shanghai

In a proud moment celebrating India’s cultural diplomacy and linguistic outreach, India’s Ambassador to China, Pradeep Kumar Rawat, felicitated educator Bhavya Mehta for her pioneering efforts in introducing Hindi at the Britannica International Senior Secondary School in Shanghai. The school has become the first in the region’s international education network to promote Hindi teaching at the primary level, marking a new milestone in India-China cultural exchanges.

Mehta, the daughter of India’s decorated war hero Brigadier Ravi Datt Mehta (Kirti Chakra), was honoured by Ambassador Rawat and Consul General Pratik Mathur at a special ceremony. “Hindi teaching at primary level at BIS now joins Hindi teaching at university level in Chinese universities such as Fudan, SISU, Tsinghua, and Peking University,” the Consulate General of India in Shanghai posted on X.

Ambassador Rawat also met with leading Chinese scholars on international affairs, including Dr. Yang Jiemian and Prof. Chen Dongxiao of the Shanghai Institutes of International Studies (SIIS). The discussions covered a wide range of global issues, including multilateral reforms, global governance, and India’s growing leadership role in shaping an equitable world order.

Later, Rawat and CG Mathur engaged with community leaders and representatives of Indian-origin corporate executives at a luncheon hosted by the Indian Association of Shanghai. The dialogue focused on strengthening community welfare, enhancing business and trade relations, and celebrating cultural bonds under the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family.

The event reaffirmed the vital role of the Indian diaspora in deepening India’s global connections and nurturing friendship between the two nations through education, culture, and enterprise.
