Indian Navy training ships conduct professional exchanges in Cambodia
Indian Navy ships from the First Training Squadron (1TS), including INS Sujata and ICGS Veera, held multiple professional exchanges and media interactions during their training deployment at Sihanoukville Port, Cambodia. The ships’ visit, from February 14-17, is part of their Long-Range Training Deployment to Southeast Asia.
During the visit, senior officers of the Indian Navy met with Mang Sineth, the Governor of the Sihanoukville region, as well as senior officials from the Royal Cambodian Navy (RCN). A Small Arms Simulator was also handed over to the Royal Cambodian Army as part of defense cooperation.
The ships were welcomed by representatives of Cambodia’s maritime agencies. The visit included activities such as cross-training sessions, social interactions, sports fixtures, and PASSEX (passage exercise) with the RCN, all aimed at strengthening cooperation and interoperability between the Indian Navy and the RCN.
This engagement is a part of the growing India-Cambodia relationship, reinforcing the maritime ties and contributing to regional stability as part of India’s ‘Act East’ policy. The visit follows the participation of the Cambodian Navy in the Ex-MILAN 24 naval exercise at Visakhapatnam in February 2024.
The ships’ visit highlights the importance of enhancing defense and maritime collaborations between India and Cambodia. In January 2024, the Indian Navy’s guided missile destroyer, INS Mumbai, participated in the multinational exercise LA PEROUSE, involving naval forces from several countries.
