India’s Passion for La Liga Rivals Spain’s: PM Modi on Barcelona’s Victory Over Madrid

The excitement surrounding Barcelona’s recent 4-0 victory over Real Madrid reached new heights as Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked on the intense rivalry between the two clubs, noting its popularity in India. Speaking at an event alongside Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, PM Modi stated that the fervor of Indian fans mirrors that of their Spanish counterparts.

“Spanish football is immensely popular in India. The match between Real Madrid and Barcelona sparked discussions across the country. Barcelona’s stunning win was a hot topic here, and the banter among fans was as lively as it would be in Spain,” he said during his speech.

The occasion marked the inauguration of the TATA Aircraft Complex in Vadodara, a significant step for the “Make in India” initiative in aviation. The two leaders unveiled the Final Assembly Line (FAL) Plant for the C295 military aircraft, developed in collaboration with Airbus Spain.

Barcelona’s recent El Clasico win is particularly noteworthy, as the club, under coach Hansi Flick, is quickly establishing itself as a top contender in Europe. After a tense first half, Robert Lewandowski scored two quick goals, followed by strikes from Lamine Yamal, who became the youngest goalscorer in Clasico history, and Raphinha, sealing a heavy defeat for Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

This victory was significant not only for its scoreline but also for ending Real Madrid’s historic 42-game unbeaten streak while preserving Barcelona’s record of the longest unbeaten streak in La Liga history—43 matches set between 2017 and 2018 under Ernesto Valverde.
