Khamenei Shelters as Iran-Israel Strikes Kill Hundreds

The Iran-Israel conflict entered a dangerous new phase as fresh airstrikes overnight killed civilians and intensified fears of a broader regional war. According to Israeli reports, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was moved to a secure underground facility as Israel targeted Tehran’s military infrastructure.

The Israeli military claimed responsibility for the strike that reportedly killed Mohammad Kazem, the intelligence chief of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. In retaliation, Iran launched multiple missile barrages at Israeli cities, killing at least 13 people—including children—and wounding over 380. Air raid sirens were heard in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as Iranian missiles struck fuel depots and residential zones.

Iran’s health ministry stated that at least 230 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes since Friday. The violence erupted after Israel launched a preemptive campaign—Operation “Rising Lion”—to destroy Iran’s nuclear and military sites, including a key nuclear archive facility.

The renewed hostilities have derailed diplomatic talks. Iran canceled the sixth round of nuclear negotiations in Oman, blaming Israel’s aggression and accusing it of “sabotaging diplomacy.” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran would not engage in ceasefire talks while under military attack.

US President Donald Trump called the conflict “alarming” and urged both nations to pursue a peace deal, though he acknowledged they “may have to fight it out first.” He also warned that any attack on American assets would provoke an unprecedented military response.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected de-escalation calls, stating, “This is about stopping Iran from developing a nuclear weapon—not calming tensions.”

With diplomacy on pause and civilian casualties mounting, international leaders have called for restraint amid fears of a wider Middle East war.
