Iran’s Khamenei rejects US talks, accuses Washington of seeking Iran’s ‘obedience’

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday dismissed the possibility of direct talks with the United States, accusing Washington of seeking Iran’s “obedience” and calling the demand “offensive.”

Khamenei said US hostility toward Iran has remained unchanged since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, citing the June 13 Israeli and US-linked strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites as part of efforts to destabilize the Islamic Republic. He claimed that American-backed groups met in Europe the next day to discuss a “post-Islamic Republic” order, including proposals for restoring monarchy.

The Supreme Leader urged national unity and voiced support for President Masoud Pezeshkian, warning that Iran’s adversaries aim to create internal divisions. He also condemned Israel’s war in Gaza, urged Western nations to halt support for Tel Aviv, and praised Yemen’s Houthis for actions against Israel.

Iran and the US severed ties after the 1979 Revolution and embassy hostage crisis, with Washington imposing repeated sanctions over Tehran’s nuclear program.
