Iranian newspaper warns Trump after Senator Lindsey Graham’s death

A state-run Iranian newspaper has published a front-page illustration appearing to warn U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli leaders following the death of longtime Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, further escalating already heightened tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel.

The Iranian daily Hamshahri carried the headline “Get Ready for Sudden Death” alongside an illustration depicting Trump kneeling while holding a photograph of Graham. Also featured were Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and other senior American and Israeli officials.

The publication came after Graham died on Saturday following what his office described as a “brief and sudden illness.” A preliminary medical examiner’s report cited an aortic tear as the cause of death.

The newspaper’s headline was widely interpreted as a symbolic warning directed at senior U.S. and Israeli leaders, although Iranian authorities did not officially clarify the intent behind the illustration.

Iranian state media also reacted strongly to Graham’s death. According to reports, some presenters on state television welcomed the senator’s passing and criticized his long-standing support for military action against Iran. A video circulating on social media appeared to show a television presenter celebrating Graham’s death, although its authenticity has not been independently verified.

The publication followed another report by Hamshahri, which reportedly featured an infographic naming several foreign leaders whom it claimed should be targeted in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The list reportedly included Trump, Netanyahu, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and other Western leaders.

Speaking on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei described Graham as “malicious” and said Iran would not mourn a politician whose views, he alleged, were based on aggression and intimidation.

Graham, who served as a U.S. senator from South Carolina and was a former Air Force lawyer, was one of Washington’s strongest advocates for military support to Israel and Ukraine. He had also repeatedly called for stronger action against Iran and publicly supported regime change following the recent U.S.-Israeli military campaign.

The publication of the newspaper’s headline underscores the increasingly hostile rhetoric surrounding the ongoing regional conflict, even as diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions remain stalled.
