JD Vance to visit India, grand welcome in Jaipur
Jaipur is witnessing intense preparations as it gears up to welcome United States Vice President James David (JD) Vance, who will arrive in India on April 21 as part of his international tour.
After landing in Italy with his family on Friday, Vance is set to reach India on Sunday. Following a scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, he will travel to Jaipur later that evening.
Vance will remain in Jaipur from April 21 to 24. On April 22, he is slated to visit the iconic Amer Palace in the morning, followed by an address at the US-India Business Summit at the Rajasthan International Centre. The summit will bring together key officials from both nations, where Vance will outline his vision for bolstering bilateral trade relations.
On April 23, the Vice President will fly to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, spending approximately three hours there before returning to Jaipur in the afternoon. Later that day, he will tour the Jaipur City Palace.
His departure is scheduled for April 24 at 6:30 a.m.
Jaipur Airport is preparing a red-carpet reception for the visiting dignitary. The Rajasthan government has mobilized resources across departments, deploying extensive security arrangements, including plainclothes police officers and intelligence-led road closures.
A 20-vehicle convoy and an official motorcade will accompany Vice President Vance. A specially-equipped ambulance with senior doctors and emergency services has also been arranged.
At Amer Palace on April 22, Vance and his family will receive a traditional Rajasthani welcome, complete with Jodhpuri safas, folk dances, puppet shows, and local cuisine. The palace will be closed to the public during the two-and-a-half-hour visit.
Twelve trained guides will be present to provide curated historical insights during the visit, ensuring dignitary interactions maintain appropriate protocol. Amer Palace Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Chholak confirmed that all security and renovation work has been finalized.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is expected to receive Vance in Delhi, with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also likely to be present during the meeting with PM Modi. Jaishankar may accompany the US Vice President during his visit to Amer Palace.
Following the Business Summit on April 22, Vance will meet Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Governor Haribhau Bagade.
Accompanying Vice President Vance are his wife Usha, their children Ivan, Vivek, and Mirabel, along with senior officials from the US administration.
This marks the first visit by a US Vice President to India in 13 years, with the last being Joe Biden’s visit in 2013.
