J&K Students Association urges PM Modi, EAM to relocate Indian students from Iran

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Monday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to urgently intervene and relocate Indian students from Iran to safer locations amid escalating regional tensions.

JKSA National Convenor Nasir Khuehami said the association has sought immediate action to ensure the safety of Indian students, particularly those from Jammu and Kashmir, as the security situation in Iran continues to deteriorate following repeated airstrikes and rising hostilities.

“The ongoing airstrikes have created widespread panic among students, with many reporting fear, uncertainty, and severe distress. Parents back home are deeply anxious about the safety of their children,” Khuehami said in a statement.

According to the association, several universities and colleges in affected areas have advised students to vacate campuses as a precautionary measure. However, with airspace disruptions, restricted mobility, and growing instability, many students are struggling to arrange safe travel or alternative accommodations.

The JKSA has urged the Union government to coordinate closely with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Tehran to facilitate relocation to safer zones until a comprehensive evacuation operation is formally launched.

Officials estimate that more than 1,200 Kashmiri students are currently studying in Iran, along with several professionals including doctors and engineers. Families in Jammu and Kashmir have expressed mounting concern as the conflict intensifies.

Meanwhile, pro-Iran protests continued for the second consecutive day in parts of the Kashmir Valley. Authorities imposed restrictions on public gatherings and vehicular movement to maintain order. Internet speeds were also reduced as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of provocative or misleading content on social media.

The appeal from the student body comes amid broader concerns about the safety of Indian nationals in conflict-affected regions. The government has previously undertaken evacuation missions during international crises, and families are now awaiting clarity on potential contingency plans.

As tensions persist, students and their families remain hopeful that swift diplomatic and logistical measures will ensure their safe relocation.
