Jordan, Greece stress need to maintain Gaza ceasefire
Jordan and Greece have emphasized the need to maintain the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, expressing hope that it will lead to a permanent end to hostilities in the region.
The statement came as Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with his visiting Greek counterpart, George Gerapetritis, in Amman. During their talks on Tuesday, the two officials discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic, investment, tourism, and cultural sectors, according to Jordan’s Foreign Ministry.
Their discussions also covered developments in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, along with ongoing efforts to address regional challenges, Xinhua news agency reported.
Both ministers stressed the importance of securing a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the immediate and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid across the territory.
Safadi briefed Gerapetritis on the outcomes of an Arab meeting held in Cairo on Saturday, which reinforced the collective Arab commitment to securing a ceasefire, delivering aid, and advancing a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
He also emphasized that Arab nations are ready to collaborate with international partners, including the United States and the European Union (EU), to work toward a just peace in the region.
For his part, Gerapetritis highlighted the strong relations between Jordan and Greece, calling for enhanced cooperation, particularly in economy, trade, and tourism.
He commended Jordan’s role in protecting the holy sites of both Muslims and Christians in Palestine and in maintaining regional stability.
The Greek foreign minister also underscored the need to prioritize humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza, reopen the Rafah crossing, support the UN Palestinian relief agency, and ensure the continued flow of aid into Gaza through Jordan’s air bridge.
Gerapetritis is visiting Jordan as part of a regional tour that includes Qatar, Palestine, and Israel.
