One person was injured after two Delta Air Lines regional jets collided on the taxiway at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Wednesday night, authorities and media reported.
According to CBS News, the “low-speed collision” involved Endeavor Air Flight 5047 from Charlotte, North Carolina, and Endeavor Flight 5155, scheduled to depart for Roanoke, Virginia. Endeavor Air is a Delta subsidiary.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported the incident occurred just before 10 p.m. Eastern Time. Preliminary information indicates that the right wing of Flight 5155 made contact with the fuselage and cockpit of Flight 5047. A flight attendant sustained a minor knee injury and was treated by EMTs at the scene before being taken to a local hospital.
Flight 5047 was carrying 57 passengers, while Flight 5155 had 28 passengers on board. All passengers were unharmed and escorted to the terminal by bus. Delta provided hotel accommodations and meals for affected travelers.
Audio from LiveATC.net captured the pilots reporting the collision. The pilot of Flight 5047 stated, “Their right wing clipped our nose and the cockpit wind screens,” while the pilot of Flight 5155 confirmed the flight attendant’s injury.
In a statement, Delta said, “We will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as safety of our customers and people comes before all else. We apologize to our customers for the experience.”
The incident is under investigation, with airport authorities and the airline assessing the cause of the collision. LaGuardia Airport continued operations, and passengers on both flights were assisted promptly, minimizing disruption to travel schedules.
