16-foot Hanuman statue installed in Guyana’s Sparta

A majestic 16-foot statue of Lord Hanuman has been installed at the Seeta Ram Radhey Shyam Mandir in Sparta, on the Essequibo Coast of Guyana. Imported from India, the statue represents a deep symbol of faith, friendship, and spiritual strength for the local Hindu community.

The murti, the tallest of its kind in the region, was donated by the Soklall family in memory of their late parents. The Indian High Commission in Georgetown shared on X that the statue will serve as a guiding force for future efforts to deepen India–Guyana cultural ties.

A three-day yajna began on Friday and concluded on Sunday with the grand unveiling of the statue. Hundreds of devotees gathered for religious discourses, bhajans, and cultural presentations throughout the event.

This installation further strengthens the spiritual bond between the two countries, echoing sentiments shared during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Guyana in November. During his visit, Modi participated in a Ram Bhajan and addressed the Indian diaspora, calling them “Rashtradoots” — ambassadors of India’s values and heritage.

The Hanuman murti stands not only as a religious icon but also as a testament to the enduring cultural ties between India and the Indo-Guyanese community.
