India-Pakistan tensions: Foreign Secretary Misri to brief committee

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to appear before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on Monday to provide a detailed briefing on the recent tensions between India and Pakistan, including the military operation known as Operation Sindoor.

The committee, chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, will focus on the diplomatic, military, and regional consequences of the operation, which was launched by India in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. This attack, which killed several people, spurred India to take retaliatory action, leading to heightened cross-border tensions between the two nations.

Misri is expected to update the committee on the current status of diplomatic ties with Pakistan, the ongoing security challenges, and the broader regional implications. His briefing will also include insights into India’s recalibration of its foreign policy in light of the changing security environment.

The briefing is of particular importance given the fragile state of India-Pakistan relations and the strategic need for maintaining military readiness while managing diplomatic sensitivity.

Earlier briefings by Misri have included updates on India’s relationships with neighboring countries like Bangladesh and its evolving ties with other nations, including Canada.

In addition to the Foreign Secretary’s briefing, the Committee on Water Resources, chaired by BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy, will also hear reports on topics such as flood management, riverbank protection, and transboundary river issues.
