Modi welcomed in Jeddah with chants and patriotic songs
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a heartfelt and vibrant welcome from locals and the Indian diaspora as he arrived in Jeddah for a two-day official visit. The scene outside his hotel was electrified with chants of “Modi-Modi” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” Adding to the fervour, Saudi singer Hashim Abbas performed the patriotic song “Ae Watan,” drawing applause from the crowd and the Prime Minister himself.
Abbas shared his joy with IANS, saying, “It was surreal. I always dreamed of singing for PM Modi.”
PM Modi landed in the historic Saudi port city to a ceremonial welcome and a 21-gun salute. He was received by Deputy Governor of Makkah Prince Saud bin Mishaal, Commerce Minister Majid bin Abdullah Al Kassabi, and Jeddah Mayor Saleh Ali Al-Turki.
As his aircraft entered Saudi airspace, it was escorted by the Royal Saudi Air Force—a special gesture highlighting the importance of this state visit. Modi later posted on X, emphasizing the visit’s role in strengthening India-Saudi ties, particularly in trade, defense, and energy.
He also highlighted his eagerness to meet the Indian community in Saudi Arabia, which stands at over 2.7 million strong, calling them a “living bridge” between the two nations.
