MP gears up for PM Modi’s visit to lay foundation for Ken-Betwa link project on Dec 25
The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chhatarpur on December 25 to lay the foundation stone for the Ken-Betwa link project.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will visit the Bundelkhand region on Thursday to review the state’s preparations and participate in various programs across different districts ahead of PM Modi’s visit.
The Chief Minister will attend the ‘Kisan Sammelan’ (farmers gathering) at a stadium in Chhatarpur district, where farmers from Panna, Chhatarpur, and Sagar districts of Bundelkhand will be present. He will address the gathering, informing them about the benefits of the Ken-Betwa river linking project, which will connect Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
Afterwards, CM Yadav will take part in a ‘Jal Kalash Yatra’ in Panna district, where a procession led by women will travel through the streets. He will also attend a ‘Sant Sammelan’ (gathering of saints) in Panna.
These events are part of the ‘Jan-Kalyan Parv,’ a campaign celebrating one year of the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh.
The Ken-Betwa River interlinking project aims to transfer excess water from the Ken River in Madhya Pradesh to the Betwa River in Uttar Pradesh, providing irrigation to the drought-prone Bundelkhand region.
PM Modi will visit Chhatarpur on December 25 to lay the foundation stone for the project, coinciding with the birth anniversary of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Earlier, CM Yadav stated that the project will provide water for irrigation to over 8.1 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region and another 2.5 lakh hectares in Uttar Pradesh. The project will benefit districts such as Chhatarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Sheopur, Damoh, Datia, Raisen, Vidisha, and Sagar.
A similar river interlinking project between Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan was also initiated. A tripartite agreement was signed in Jaipur on Tuesday between MP, Rajasthan, and the Central government in the presence of PM Modi. This project will irrigate 6.1 lakh hectares of farmland across 11 districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Guna, Rajgarh, Shivpuri, Dewas, Ujjain, Agar, Mandsaur, and Morena.
