Nayab Singh Saini Claims to Form BJP Government in Haryana
Nayab Singh Saini, recently elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party, visited Governor Bandaru Dattatreya at Raj Bhawan on Wednesday, accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to stake his claim to form the government in Haryana.
Saini, 54, is set to be sworn in as Chief Minister on Thursday morning at the Parade Ground in Panchkula, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent leaders, including Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in attendance.
Three Independent MLAs—Savitri Jindal, Devendra Kadyan, and Rajesh Doon—who are supporting Saini, also joined him at Raj Bhawan.
Earlier in the day, Saini was unanimously chosen as the BJP legislative party leader during a meeting in Panchkula, attended by Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who served as central observers. Shah emphasized that Haryana has defied political expectations by securing a third consecutive BJP government.
“Nayab Singh Saini has been elected as leader of the legislative party. We will again form the government in Haryana, and the double-engine government will be here for 15 years. Under Manohar Lal Khattar’s leadership, significant development has taken place in Haryana,” Shah stated.
After his election, Saini remarked, “The people of Haryana have placed their trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies, enabling the BJP to form the government for a third time. The people are committed to realizing Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.”
Saini’s nomination as legislative party leader was supported by MLAs Krishan Kumar Bedi and Anil Vij. The BJP achieved a significant victory in the recent Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 90 seats despite facing anti-incumbency challenges. The Congress secured 37 seats, while the INLD won two, and three Independents were also elected, all of whom have pledged their unconditional support to the new government. Saini was appointed Chief Minister in March following Khattar’s resignation ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
