Nepal’s Oli calls PM Modi, condemns Pahalgam terror attack

Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to strongly condemn the brutal terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district and express his condolences for the loss of lives.

Oli described the attack as “heinous” and discussed the matter in detail with PM Modi during the call.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Prime Minister Modi also expressed his sorrow over the death of a young Nepali national in the attack and assured that India is committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“India and Nepal stand together in the fight against terrorism,” the MEA said in an official statement.

The two leaders had recently met during the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, where Oli described their talks as “extremely fruitful and positive.”

Nepal continues to be a priority partner for India under the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, and the phone call further emphasized the ongoing commitment to deepen the bilateral relationship.

The terror attack, which took place on Tuesday in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, left more than a dozen tourists dead and several critically injured. Terrorists, believed to be associated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-based offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, reportedly emerged from nearby forests and opened fire on civilians.

Though TRF has claimed responsibility, official confirmation is still pending.

In the aftermath, security forces across Jammu and Kashmir are on high alert, with increased deployments and tightened security at vulnerable locations across the region.
