Netanyahu nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize after Iran-Israel ceasefire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his role in brokering a ceasefire between Iran and Israel following a 12-day conflict in June.

During a dinner at the White House on Monday, Netanyahu presented Trump with a formal letter of nomination addressed to the Nobel Prize Committee. “President Trump is forging peace as we speak, in one country and one region after the other,” Netanyahu said. “So, I want to present to you the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize committee. It’s nominating you for the peace prize, which is well-deserved.”

The ceasefire agreement, announced by Trump last month, helped end a violent escalation between Iran and Israel that began on June 13. Netanyahu hailed Trump’s leadership and efforts to promote stability in the Middle East.

“I want to express the appreciation and admiration not only of all Israelis, but of the Jewish people and many admirers around the world, for your leadership… especially in the Middle East,” Netanyahu said. He also praised the teamwork between U.S. and Israeli officials in addressing regional challenges.

Trump appeared surprised by the nomination. “This I did not know. Wow, thank you very much. Coming from you in particular, this is very meaningful,” he responded.

While hosting the Israeli Prime Minister and his wife, Sara Netanyahu, Trump described them as “longtime friends” and expressed optimism about continued collaboration and success.

The nomination underscores Trump’s reemergence on the global diplomatic stage, particularly as he seeks to frame his foreign policy achievements ahead of the upcoming U.S. election season.
