Pakistan accused of enforced disappearances of Baloch youth in Balochistan

At least three Baloch youth have been forcibly disappeared by Pakistan’s military intelligence personnel in Balochistan, according to the Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department, Paank. The group condemned the abductions as part of the continuing cycle of persecution in the province.

Paank reported that on August 14, two teenagers, Dildar Baloch and Talal Baloch, were detained by security forces while playing at a cricket ground in Buleda, Kech district. Both were working as drivers. Separately, another student, Muhammad Azeem from Killi Khuasam in Mastung district, was abducted from his home on August 5.

The rights body demanded the unconditional release of the youth and called on Pakistan to end what it described as crimes against humanity in Balochistan.

Meanwhile, families of the disappeared have been staging a sit-in protest in Islamabad for 31 consecutive days, demanding the release of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leaders and an end to enforced disappearances. At a media event titled Illegal Detention of BYC Leaders and Grievances of Families of the Forcibly Disappeared, relatives of the detained leaders, activists, and citizens voiced their demands.

According to the BYC, police attempted to block the gathering, mistreating women protesters, but families stood firm, vowing to continue their struggle for justice.

The BYC also highlighted the plight of the mother of 17-year-old Ehsan Syed, who was killed by Pakistan’s Federal Constabulary on June 3 near LakPass Tunnel. She was arrested along with her daughter during a protest in Quetta, subjected to harassment, and later released without justice for her son’s killing.

Rights groups warn that instead of accountability, grieving families in Balochistan continue to face arrests, threats, and intimidation by Pakistani authorities.
