Indian diaspora celebrates PM Modi’s historic visit to Mauritius

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in Port Louis on Tuesday sparked excitement and pride among the Indian diaspora in Mauritius as he began his two-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

The visit, which includes attending the National Day celebrations of Mauritius on March 12 as the Chief Guest, reflects the deep-rooted historical and cultural bonds between the two nations.

Members of the Indian diaspora expressed their enthusiasm and admiration for PM Modi’s leadership and the growing relationship between India and Mauritius.

One attendee shared, “This is such a proud moment for all of us. The bond between India and Mauritius has always been strong, but with PM Modi’s visit, we can feel it growing even stronger. His leadership has transformed India into a powerful nation, and it’s heartening to know that Mauritius is benefiting from India’s progress as well.”

Global admiration for PM Modi

Anju Bhagat Rajkumar, who traveled from Toronto, expressed her excitement at following PM Modi on his travels.

“I’ve met him in Odisha, at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, and now in Mauritius. As a Mauritian, it’s a matter of immense pride for us to have a leader like PM Modi visiting our island. The collaboration between India and Mauritius has brought positive changes, especially in healthcare and finances,” she said.

For many, this visit marked their first opportunity to meet PM Modi in person.

One woman remarked, “I’ve admired PM Modi for so long, and today I get to meet him. He’s such an inspiration to all of us, a true role model.”

Uday Niketan added, “We’ve waited for this moment for so long. PM Modi isn’t just a great leader for India, but for the entire world. His influence is felt globally.”

Strengthening India-Mauritius ties

PM Modi’s visit comes at a significant time as he reinforces India’s strategic vision for the Indian Ocean region. His visit marks the first since 2015, when he unveiled Vision SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), highlighting India’s commitment to regional security and development.

PM Modi’s engagement with the Mauritian leadership and the Indian diaspora reflects the ongoing strength of the relationship between the two nations and sets the stage for further collaboration in trade, infrastructure, and cultural exchange.
