Powerful earthquake kills nearly 100 in Tibet, rattles Nepal

A powerful earthquake struck Tibet on Monday, killing nearly 100 people and causing widespread damage, according to local officials. The tremor, which also rattled neighboring Nepal, measured 7.1 on the Richter scale, triggering panic and leading to the collapse of buildings and infrastructure in affected areas.

In Tibet, the hardest-hit region, rescue teams have been working around the clock to pull survivors from the rubble. Initial reports indicate that many of the fatalities were in the mountainous areas, where buildings were not built to withstand such strong tremors. The earthquake also caused significant landslides, further complicating rescue efforts.

In Nepal, the earthquake was felt across the capital, Kathmandu, and other parts of the country, although no major damage or casualties have been reported so far. The Nepalese government has issued an alert and is monitoring the situation closely.

Authorities in both regions are urging residents to stay alert and take precautions as aftershocks continue to be felt. Emergency services have been mobilized to provide aid and support to those affected by the disaster.

The earthquake comes at a time when both Tibet and Nepal are still recovering from previous natural disasters, further complicating the region’s ability to respond to the crisis.
