President Murmu emphasizes preparing youth for changing global demands
President Droupadi Murmu on Monday highlighted the need to prepare the younger generation for evolving global demands, calling it a major challenge for higher education institutions.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology in Hisar, Haryana, she emphasized that for balanced and sustainable development, education and technology must reach rural areas.
She acknowledged the university’s efforts in educating students from small towns and villages and urged students to spread awareness about the importance of education within their communities.
India’s path to becoming a global knowledge superpower
The President stressed the importance of research in higher education, stating that world-class research will play a pivotal role in establishing India as a global knowledge superpower. She praised the university’s initiatives, including incubation centers, startup programs, patent filing departments, and research projects.
She expressed confidence that these initiatives would nurture innovation and entrepreneurship among students, driving India towards global leadership in knowledge and technology.
Education, values, and entrepreneurship
President Murmu noted that education is not just about acquiring knowledge and skills but also about developing life values such as morality, compassion, and tolerance. She encouraged students to embrace entrepreneurship, urging them to create employment opportunities rather than solely seeking jobs.
“An entrepreneurial mindset enables individuals to identify opportunities, take risks, and find creative solutions to existing problems. Through innovation, entrepreneurs can solve social issues and contribute to the nation’s progress,” she stated.
By fostering this mindset of job creation, students can effectively utilize their knowledge and skills for societal development, she added.
Environmental values and inspiration from Guru Jambheshwarji
The President also paid tribute to Guru Jambheshwarji, in whose honor the university is named. She highlighted his teachings on scientific thinking, ethical living, and environmental protection.
She emphasized that his philosophy, which promotes compassion for all living beings and a moral responsibility toward nature, remains highly relevant in today’s fight against environmental challenges.
Expressing confidence in the university’s teachers and students, she hoped they would continue contributing to the country’s progress by following Guru Jambheshwarji’s path.
