Sarah Jessica Parker explains why she avoids politics on social media

Los Angeles, July 9 (IANS) — Hollywood icon Sarah Jessica Parker has opened up about why she avoids discussing politics on social media, citing the platform’s limitations for nuanced conversation.

Appearing on “The Best People” podcast, the Sex and the City star said she finds social media unsuitable for complex political discussions. “I often don’t talk on social media because I don’t think it’s a place that’s deserving of any real complicated conversation,” Parker explained.

She noted that discussing elections or political conflicts in “quick little snippets” often leads to misinterpretation. “It turns into a distraction from a campaign. It turns into fodder. It’s misunderstood. You have no control over it,” she said.

Parker believes political engagement doesn’t have to revolve around social media. “Politics happened long before Twitter. FDR was elected without social media,” she added, emphasizing other ways to drive meaningful change.

While fans often urge her to be more outspoken online, she prefers a more thoughtful, informed approach. “I’m not going to talk about stuff that I don’t feel educated on. I want to be helpful, not harmful,” Parker said.

The actress also stressed the importance of nuance in addressing social issues, something she believes social media doesn’t foster. “I don’t want to hurt something that matters to me by saying something poorly or out of context,” she said.

Parker also recently reflected on body shaming in the public eye. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she shared how harsh comments about her appearance escalated after taking on the role of Carrie Bradshaw.

“Even after hearing it, I had no interest in changing myself,” she stated.
