‘India too has been a terror victim’: Shashi Tharoor visits 9/11 Memorial during anti-terror outreach

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, leading an Indian multi-party parliamentary delegation, began a global anti-terror diplomatic outreach with a symbolic visit to the 9/11 Memorial in New York.

Tharoor emphasized that the visit underscores India’s own long-standing experience with terrorism. “This gesture reminds the world that India, too, has been a victim of repeated terrorist attacks over the past four decades,” he said.

The delegation, which includes MPs from BJP, Congress, Shiv Sena, JMM, LJP (Ram Vilas), and TDP, reflects rare bipartisan unity on international issues. Their first destination is Georgetown, Guyana, followed by Panama, Colombia, Brazil, and the United States.

Tharoor added that the team aims to explain India’s approach to counter-terrorism and its response mechanisms while garnering global support to hold Pakistan accountable for cross-border terrorism.

Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu is coordinating the mission, representing the Ministry of External Affairs. The MPs will also engage with diaspora communities and local leaders during the visit.
