South Korea: Bail hearing for ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol set for Friday

A Seoul court will hold a bail hearing for former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol at 10:30 a.m. Friday, legal sources confirmed. Yoon, who has been in custody since July, filed for bail last week citing health concerns and the need to prepare his defense.

The hearing will follow the opening session of Yoon’s second trial, where he faces charges of violating Cabinet members’ rights and issuing a revised proclamation after his failed martial law declaration in December. He is already standing trial for allegedly leading an insurrection over the martial law attempt.

Special counsel Cho Eun-suk’s team has also summoned Yoon for questioning Wednesday over allegations of inciting foreign aggression. Investigators suspect Yoon ordered the Drone Operations Command to dispatch drones toward Pyongyang to provoke a North Korean response and justify martial law.

Several senior military officials, including former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Kim Myung-soo, have denied the drone operations were linked to martial law, insisting they were responses to North Korean balloon campaigns.
