‘Very sad,’ says Trump as Democrats walk out during his speech
US President Donald Trump criticized Democrats for their lack of enthusiasm and refusal to applaud his remarks during a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, calling their response “very sad.”
Expressing frustration, Trump stated, “I look at the Democrats in front of me and realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand, smile, or applaud. Nothing I can do.”
He added, “I could find a cure to the most devastating disease, announce the greatest economy in history, or bring crime to its lowest levels ever recorded—and these people still won’t clap, stand, or cheer for these astronomical achievements.”
Having addressed Congress multiple times, Trump expressed disappointment over the lack of bipartisan support, saying, “Five times I’ve been up here. It’s very sad, and it just shouldn’t be this way.”
Democrats Stage Walkout in Protest
As Trump spoke, at least half a dozen Democratic lawmakers walked out, wearing shirts emblazoned with the word “Resist” on the back. Some held protest signs criticizing the President’s policies.
While Republican lawmakers cheered Trump’s proposed cuts to USAID programs, Democrats openly voiced their disapproval, booing the announcement.
Representative Gil Cisneros (D-Calif.) interrupted Trump’s speech, loudly questioning, “What about the $400 million Tesla contract?” Other Democrats groaned and shouted responses like “Not true,” “Bullshit!” and “Lies” in reaction to Trump’s claims about reductions in federal spending.
The speech underscored the deep partisan divide within Congress, with tensions running high as Trump and his Democratic critics clashed over policy and political ideology.
