Trump denies leaving G7 over Iran-Israel ceasefire, slams Macron

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday denied reports that he exited the G7 Summit in Canada early to facilitate a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, criticizing French President Emmanuel Macron for spreading misinformation.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Publicity-seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit… to go back to D.C. to work on a ‘cease fire’ between Israel and Iran. Wrong!… Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay tuned!”

Macron had suggested to reporters at the summit that Trump’s early departure was tied to diplomatic efforts surrounding the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, which has escalated over the past five days.

“There is indeed an offer to meet and exchange… especially to get a ceasefire,” Macron stated, while noting the U.S. could influence Israel to de-escalate. He added that negotiations need to restart and civilians must be protected.

However, Trump dismissed those comments, asserting that his early return was unrelated to the conflict and tied to other pressing matters. He emphasized that the reason was “much bigger” than a ceasefire discussion and criticized Macron for “always getting it wrong.”

The ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel have resulted in multiple casualties, with both sides trading missile attacks. Trump has also previously called for the evacuation of Tehran, further indicating U.S. concern over the volatile situation.

Trump’s remarks come amid global calls for de-escalation, including from the G7 leaders who reiterated Israel’s right to self-defense while urging Iran to refrain from further military action.
