Trump orders US flags at half-staff to honor Minneapolis school shooting victims
US President Donald Trump has ordered all American flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide and at US facilities abroad until August 31 in memory of the victims of the Minneapolis Catholic school mass shooting.
The tragedy left two children dead and 17 others injured, with seven in critical condition. The gunman, a man in his 20s, entered the school during a morning mass and opened fire with multiple weapons before dying from self-inflicted wounds, police said.
Trump’s proclamation applies to the White House, public buildings, military posts, naval stations, embassies, and consular offices worldwide. He urged Americans to join him in prayers for the victims and praised the FBI’s rapid response.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called for urgent measures against gun violence, stressing that children must feel safe in schools and churches.
