Trump reveals Israel’s temporary halt in Gaza bombings, urges Hamas to act swiftly

US President Donald Trump announced that Israel has temporarily paused its bombing campaign in Gaza to allow progress on the 20-point peace plan and the release of hostages. “Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off,” Trump posted on Truth Social, warning against any delay in implementing the deal.

In a separate post, Trump said Israel had agreed to an initial withdrawal line presented to Hamas, adding that once Hamas confirms, “the ceasefire will be immediately effective, the hostages and prisoner exchange will begin, and the next phase of withdrawal will follow.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that indirect talks with Hamas were ongoing in Egypt, expressing hope that “all hostages will be released in the coming days.” He said an Israeli delegation was in Cairo to finalize “technical details,” emphasizing that the negotiations would be kept to “a timeframe of a few days.”

On Friday, Trump had set a Sunday deadline for Hamas to accept the plan, warning of severe consequences if it failed to comply. Hamas later announced that it had accepted the proposal in principle and was ready to participate in mediated talks. The international community welcomed the development, urging both sides to seize the opportunity to end the months-long war and ease Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.

The 20-point peace plan includes a ceasefire-for-hostages arrangement, phased Israeli withdrawal, Gaza’s demilitarization, and international oversight of post-war governance and reconstruction. Hamas would be excluded from the governing structure. Israel would release 1,950 prisoners in exchange for hostages, and Hamas members willing to disarm would be granted amnesty or safe passage abroad.
