Trump urges NATO to stop Russian oil, threatens 50–100% tariffs on China

US President Donald Trump lashed out at NATO allies for “shocking” purchases of Russian oil, while threatening tariffs of 50–100% on China if members halted imports from Moscow.

In a Truth Social post, Trump accused NATO of lacking full commitment to Ukraine’s war effort. He said punitive tariffs on Beijing would “break its grip” over Russia and accelerate an end to the conflict.

India, however, remains the only nation penalized with 25% tariffs for Russian oil imports, a move Trump admitted “causes a rift.” His envoy nominee to New Delhi, Sergio Gor, told a Senate panel, “We expect more from India.”

Despite the rhetoric, analysts see Trump’s China tariff warning as largely symbolic, noting NATO nations like Turkiye and the EU maintain billions in trade with Moscow. India–US trade talks are ongoing, with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal expected in Washington this week.
