Madhya Pradesh Tribal Affairs Minister Vijay Shah has approached the Supreme Court seeking to quash the FIR ordered by the MP High Court over his remarks on Army officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.

The High Court had directed the state’s DGP to file a case within four hours under Sections 152, 196(1)(b), and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, warning of contempt action for non-compliance.

The court said Shah’s comments, calling Col Qureshi a “sister of terrorists,” prima facie promoted enmity among castes and hurt religious sentiments.

Following backlash, Shah apologized and praised Col Qureshi’s service, calling her a national pride. His SC plea challenges the FIR and the High Court’s suo moto action.
