Zelensky expresses gratitude for U.S. support amid ongoing war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the United States for its continued support during the ongoing war with Russia.
In a video message posted on X, Zelensky acknowledged America’s role in Ukraine’s fight, stating, “Of course, we understand the importance of America, and we are grateful for all the support we’ve received from the United States.”
His remarks came two days after a tense White House meeting, where U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance criticized him for not expressing enough appreciation toward America and for rejecting proposed terms for a ceasefire.
Addressing these concerns, Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to peace and emphasized the strong backing it continues to receive from Europe.
“As a result of these days, we see clear support from Europe. Even more unity, even more willingness to cooperate,” he said, stressing that Ukraine’s priority is securing “real security guarantees” rather than engaging in an “endless war.”
He further underscored that Europe, including the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Turkey, stands united in ensuring lasting peace.
“Everyone is united on the main issue. For peace to be real, we need real security guarantees. And this is the position of all of Europe, the entire continent,” he stated.
Zelensky also reflected on Ukraine’s resilience and the global efforts to preserve its independence.
“There has not been a day when we haven’t felt gratitude. Our resilience in Ukraine is based on what our partners are doing for us and for their own security,” he added.
His statement follows his participation in a high-level summit in London, where world leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, gathered to discuss the ongoing war.
The summit reaffirmed international solidarity with Ukraine as the conflict with Russia continues.
