Zelensky urges sanctions, long-range weapons to counter Russia’s escalating strikes
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday called for stronger international action against Russia, urging allies to impose tougher sanctions and provide Kyiv with long-range strike capabilities.
Zelensky said Russia launched over 1,500 drones, 1,280 guided bombs, and 50 missiles in a single week, with thousands of foreign-made components traced to Europe, the US, China, Japan, and other nations. He warned that Moscow’s unchecked aggression could threaten Europe and the Indo-Pacific.
“Russia must feel the consequences of what it is doing. Adequate counteraction is needed — sanctions, pressure, and strengthening our army with long-range capabilities,” Zelensky posted on X.
The appeal comes as the EU proposes its 19th sanctions package targeting Russian banks, LNG imports, and companies aiding Moscow’s war effort. EU Vice-President Kaja Kallas said the measures are designed to cripple Russia’s military industry and revenues until peace is restored.
