Miller, Coetzee ruled out of South Africa’s Pakistan tour; Ferreira to lead in T20Is

South Africa’s white-ball tour of Pakistan has taken a hit as T20I captain David Miller and pacer Gerald Coetzee have been ruled out due to injuries, Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Thursday.

Miller, who was slated to lead the Proteas in the three-match T20I series from October 28 to November 1, suffered a grade 1 right hamstring strain during training. CSA said he will undergo a “phased rehabilitation program.”

Coetzee has been sidelined from both T20I and ODI formats after sustaining a pectoral muscle injury while bowling in the one-off T20I against Namibia earlier this month. “Following scans and specialist consultation, he has commenced a structured rehabilitation program,” CSA added.

To fill the gaps, Donovan Ferreira has been appointed T20I captain, while Matthew Breetzke and uncapped Tony de Zorzi have joined the T20I squad. Ottneil Baartman replaces Coetzee in the ODI squad.

The T20I squad departs for Islamabad on Thursday, marking a critical test for South Africa’s bench strength ahead of a busy international schedule.
