May 17, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Neeraj Chopra after the star athlete became the first Indian to throw over 90 meters in javelin. Chopra achieved a personal best of 90.23m at the 2025 Doha Diamond League, breaking his own national record.
Calling it “a spectacular feat,” PM Modi said Chopra’s dedication and passion have made the nation proud. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also congratulated Chopra, calling it a historic milestone.
Despite finishing second behind Germany’s Julian Weber (91.06m), Chopra expressed satisfaction with his performance, especially after struggling with injury in recent seasons. He now looks ahead to improving further in upcoming events.
