Sindhu advances, Lakshya Sen exits early at Indonesia Open

PV Sindhu moved into the second round of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 badminton tournament after a thrilling win over Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara, while Lakshya Sen exited in the first round after a close match against world No. 1 Shi Yu Qi.

Sindhu defeated Okuhara 22-20, 21-23, 21-15 in a match lasting over 79 minutes. After splitting the first two games in a see-saw battle, Sindhu dominated the decider to reach the round of 16.

Lakshya Sen fought hard but lost 11-21, 22-20, 15-21. Returning from a back injury, Sen forced a decider but couldn’t sustain momentum in the third game.

Anupama Upadhyaya also crashed out, losing to South Korea’s Kim Ga Eun in straight games. HS Prannoy and the Satwik-Chirag pair are scheduled to play later.
