Ten Hag Thanks United Fans for Their ‘Unshakeable Support’ as He Bids Farewell
Erik ten Hag has expressed his gratitude to Manchester United fans following his dismissal from the club, which came after a challenging 2-1 loss to West Ham. The Dutch manager’s tenure, which lasted two seasons, ended on Monday, with United swiftly appointing Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon as his successor.
In a statement released through his representatives, SEG, Ten Hag thanked the supporters for their unwavering loyalty, acknowledging their role in creating a vibrant atmosphere at Old Trafford. “Thank you for always being there for the club,” he said. “Whether at a distant game or during tough matches at Old Trafford, your support has been unshakeable. The atmosphere here has always been electrifying, thanks to you.”
Ten Hag joined Manchester United in the summer of 2022, bringing a renewed sense of hope. In his first season, he led the team to a Carabao Cup victory, ended a six-year trophy drought, and guided United to a third-place finish in the Premier League. The season concluded with an FA Cup final win over city rivals Manchester City.
However, the 2024-25 season saw a downturn in form, with United dropping to 14th in the league standings after nine matches. The management decided it was time for a change, leading to Ten Hag’s departure.
Reflecting on his time at the club, he remarked, “We won two trophies—achievements I will cherish for the rest of my life.” He also expressed his appreciation for the club’s staff, acknowledging their support during both successes and challenges.
“Of course, my dream was to bring more trophies to the cabinet. Unfortunately, that dream has come to an end. I wish all Manchester United fans nothing but success, trophies, and glory.”
Ten Hag concluded his farewell by wishing the club and its supporters well for the future, emphasizing his enduring respect for Manchester United. His departure marks the conclusion of a chapter filled with both hope and valuable lessons, leaving fans with memories of his accomplishments and anticipation for the new era under Amorim.
