40 Civilians Killed in Attack by Paramilitary Forces in Sudan: Resistance Committee

At least 40 civilians were killed in an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a village in central Sudan, according to the Abu Gouta Resistance Committee.

The committee reported that the RSF targeted Gouz Al-Naqa village in the Abu Gouta area of Gezira State. “At least 40 civilians were killed in the attack,” the committee stated.

Several bodies remain exposed in the village as the RSF is reportedly preventing displaced residents from returning to bury the dead, Xinhua news agency reported.

The committee has urged civil society organizations to pressure the RSF to allow access to the village for burial purposes.

The RSF has yet to comment on the attack.

The RSF gained control of Gezira State in December 2023 after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) withdrew from Wad Madani, the state capital. Since April 15, 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a violent conflict between the SAF and the RSF, resulting in at least 16,650 deaths and displacing millions of people.
