Ahmadiyya doctor killed in Pakistan over faith
A prominent Ahmadiyya doctor, Sheikh Ahmad Mahmood, was shot dead at Fatima Hospital in Sargodha, Pakistan, reportedly due to his religious beliefs, according to local media reports.
The attacker, dressed as a “Clean Punjab Program” worker, shot Mahmood twice in the back while shouting threats. The doctor was rushed to the District Headquarters Teaching Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The assailant fled with an accomplice on a motorcycle.
The Ahmadiyya community stated that Dr. Mahmood had been receiving threats from extremists who were pressuring him to leave his job.
This marks the third targeted killing of an Ahmadiyya member in a month, sparking fears of a coordinated campaign. The community urged authorities to act against rising hate crimes and ensure justice.
Earlier incidents include a businessman lynched in Karachi last month and reports of increasing attacks on religious minorities, as documented by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.
