Avoid All Non-Essential Travel to Iran: MEA Issues Advisory

India has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran due to rising tensions in the region.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated, “We are closely monitoring the recent escalation in the security situation,” and emphasized that “Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran.” The MEA also encouraged Indians currently in Iran to remain vigilant and stay in touch with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

This advisory follows Iran’s launch of approximately 200 missiles at Israel on Tuesday night. Last week, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discussed the geopolitical situation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi during the BRICS meeting at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Iran has claimed that its attacks targeted “military and security establishments” in Israel. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated, “This action was in defense of the interests and citizens of Iran. Let Netanyahu know that Iran is not a belligerent but will firmly stand against any threat. This is just a glimpse of our power. Do not provoke conflict with Iran.”

As tensions escalate, Israel has vowed to retaliate. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Iran had made a “big mistake” and would “pay” for its actions.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported intercepting “a large number” of the missiles launched by Iran, while the U.S. provided diplomatic support and assisted in intercepting some threats.

In response to the missile attack, Israel’s Airports Authority announced the closure of its airspace, redirecting incoming flights. Neighboring countries, including Jordan and Iraq, have also temporarily closed their airspace to flights due to security concerns. IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari remarked, “Iran’s attack is a severe escalation. There will be consequences… We will respond wherever, whenever, and however we choose, following the directive of the Israeli government.”
